Urban Tour

Starting by the Municipal Hall of Culture in Raziel Street – a pedestrian area with cafes on both sides – we will begin our walking tour by visiting a museum dedicated to the heritage of Yemenite Jews. From Kikar Haatzmaut we will head north on the Shaked promenade until we reach “Galleria Al Hatzuk” (the Cliff Gallery). The tour comes to a close on either the peaceful walkways overlooking the sea or the well-tended Netanya beaches.

Historic Tour

Walking tour. Our starting point is the famous sycamore tree on Mintz Street. This impressive 1,000-year-old tree has an amazing 8-meter circumference. We will begin our walk by passing through the Municipal Hall of Culture, the colorful outdoor market, and Zion Square, which was the location for Hotel Eden, Netanya’s very first hotel. We will also pass by the legendary Sharon Cinema. After crossing the Herzl Street pedestrian area, we will listen to stories of the Irgun (the pre-state Jewish militant group) by Beit Hamosadot on 15 Herzl Street, before continuing via Beckman Alley, where the first Magen David Adom first-aid station was located. Nearby is Bialik School, the first school to be established in the city. The tour ends near Ester Cinema and Gan Hamelech (the king’s garden).

.Our starting point is the promenades and gardens that stretch out along the sandstone cliffs by the shore. Breathe in the fresh salty air as we continue towards the Iris Reserve in the southern part of the city, which features hundreds of argaman (purple) irises (Iris atropurpurea) that bloom in February and March. Across the road is a winter pond surrounded by eucalyptus trees where water fowl spend the winter. The Winter Pond Park is made entirely from wood, and includes entertainment and sports facilities for children. From there we can continue to the Poleg reserve and Poleg River, and end the tour in Park Yakum, which offers many family activities.

Utopia Orchid Park and Kakun Park

We start our journey at Utopia Orchid Park in Kibbutz Bahan. This is one of the few parks in the world combining orchids, carnivorous plants, birds, fish, water plants, and other exotic flowers in a tropical rainforest environment. From there we can proceed to the old crusaders’ fortress at the Kakun ruins. This fortress dominated the route Caesarea-Nablus route, and was conquered by Napoleon in1799. It has now been reconstructed, and offers a good view of the entire valley. A picnic area and tables are available. Entrance is from the road connecting Gan Yoshia to Amatz.

Jewish Legion Museum (‘Bet Hagdudim’)

This museum was established by veterans of the British army’s Jewish battalions. These veterans founded Moshav Avihayil, near Netanya, and the museum depicts their struggle to form the Jewish battalions, which eventually influenced the development of the Israeli military. The Jewish Legion dates back to the early 1900s, and more than 10,000 people were members. On display are photographs, documents, flags, and such items as a life-size model of a mule and a soldier.

The Turtle Bridge

Come here to watch giant sea turtles, and then climb up an observation tower to see spectacular views of the Hefer Valley.
